Book a beekeeper for a talk
If you would like to book us to speak to a group of children (or adults), contact us here. Depending on the weather and time of year, we'll bring an observation hive with live bees, or other training material. We cater our talks to the age of the children involved, and will talk to children about the importance of bees, what bees produce, and what beekeepers really do. If you have specific things you'd like us to discuss, we're happy to accomodate.
Apply or suggest a location for our young beekeeper program
Our Young Beekeeper program is a big part of our mission. We want to give back to our community, and believe that our helping our children and our environment is the best way we can do that. Our young beekeeper program takes children of all ages from low income neighborhoods and gets them started with bees. Our younger students learn about bees, and will be taught how they can help bees. We'll work with them to make seed balls, plant flowers, and make their neighborhood a friendlier place for the bees, and a nicer looking place for the people. As the children get older, they'll learn about bee biology, and be able to observe a bee keeper at work. Once they are old enough to work with the bees, we teach them how to work in a hive.
Our long term goal is to be able to provide children who have finished our program with a hive of their own, provide them with internships at commercial apiaries, and bring them back into the program to help younger students.
We believe that this program will help children get involved in science, get involved in their community, and give them a skill that they can use throughout their lives as both a career and a hobby. If your organization would like to apply to have this program in your area, contact us today.
